Thorens is a formerly Swiss manufacturer of high-end audio equipment.
Thorens is historically renowned for the range of phonographs (turntables) the manufacturer produces. In addition to audio playback equipment.
Initially engaged in the manufacture of music boxes and clock movements (which were still being produced in the 1950s), the company began manufacturing Edison-type phonographs in 1903.
Thorens TD190-1 (first 190 since 1999)
In 1928 they produced their first electric (motorized) turntable, and in the 1950s and 1960s they produced a range of audiophile turntables that, even today, are considered high-end audio equipment and are still highly sought after, such as the belt-drive, suspended sub-chassis TD 150 introduced in 1965. Its principle is also found in the Linn Sondek LP12. Its successor, the TD 160 appeared in 1972 and was built unchanged for almost 20 years. With the TD 320 introduced in 1984, Thorens replaced the subframe springs with leaf springs.
